Primers are organised below into the popular SHIELD range followed by Jotamastic, single and two-pack categories. As a general rule the single pack paints tend to be less expensive and easier to use but don't provide the same level of protection as the two-pack equivalents. Marine primers are used to protect steel, wood, aluminium, concrete and GRP above and/or below the waterline or in splash zones.
For more information on which Jotun primer to use visit our marine paint guide.
The best way to ensure primers are applied in the required thicknesses and with the correct number of coats is to use a Wet Film Gauge and to use different colours between coats (so you can see where you have been). However, if you are only ordering one tin of primer, we can now supply some tint that you can use to change the colour of your primer to differentiate between coats.
Formulated by experts - for leisure users wanting professional results. Gives an excellent finish when applied using a brush and/or roller.

Ballastic Black narrowboat and canal boat hull blacking is an equivalent to Intertuf 16 and Rylards Rytex, but has a higher percentage of volume solids than both products. This means that when applied at the same spreading rate as competitor's products, Ballastic Black will provide a thicker coating which will give better corrosion protection and, perhaps more importantly, at a lower cost. It is a bitumen based coating that is extremely waterproof and easy to apply. It can be applied on bare steel or over existing coatings.
A wide range of two-pack epoxy primers including Jotamastic, Penguard and Jotacote Universal.
